Ready to teach
A simple way to begin.
- 1Look and talk. Display the picture and collect a few visible details together.
- 2Write or draw. Print a student page. Let children use a few words, a sentence or a sketch.
- 3Explain a clue. Ask what in the picture supports an idea. Use the guide for possible responses.
Make it fit
Room for every response.
Read prompts aloud and rehearse a response before writing, including in Grades 1–2 where needed. For Kindergarten, accept pointing, drawing or speaking; an adult can record the child’s words.
For multilingual learners, name unfamiliar objects and use gestures for position words. Allow rehearsal in a familiar language before discussing an English response. For other levels, adapt vocabulary and writing demand; compare two possible ideas and their clues.
